Natalia Denegri is an entrepreneur, partner at Baires Grill, and Emmy-winning TV producer and host of Corazones Guerrero.

I’ve had the privilege of building a career that brings together three worlds: entrepreneurship, media and humanitarian work.

At first glance, they may seem unrelated. But over the years, I’ve come to see not just a common thread across these fields, but a broader lesson for business as a whole: Increasingly, leadership today is not defined only by business growth, but by the ways we can create impact beyond our companies.

And whether through a brand, a story or a public platform, media can be a powerful tool for positive change when it’s used with intention and responsibility. Looking back on my journey, three lessons stand out.

1. Purpose Makes Businesses Stronger

Many entrepreneurs start with an idea, a product or a market opportunity. But the businesses that endure are often those built around a deeper purpose.

I’ve seen how a company can become stronger when it represents more than a commercial concept. To bring it close to home from my industry, a restaurant is not just food—it’s culture, identity, and connection. When a business reflects values and authenticity, people go beyond supporting it and feel like they are a part of its story.

Of course, purpose doesn’t replace strategy or strong management, but it can give a company soul. And in today’s business landscape, that matters more than ever.

2. Media Can Be A Force For Awareness

Alongside my entrepreneurial work, I’ve spent many years producing and hosting a television program that highlights stories of resilience, solidarity and humanitarian initiatives around the world.

That experience taught me the enormous influence media can have when it’s used to elevate meaningful stories. While media often gravitates toward conflict or controversy, it can also serve as a bridge—connecting audiences with causes, communities and realities that deserve attention.

When leaders choose to use their platforms to highlight stories that matter, they help bring visibility to people who might otherwise remain unheard. Influence carries responsibility, and storytelling can be one of the most powerful ways to inspire awareness and action.

3. The Role Of Modern Leaders Is Expanding

Today’s leaders operate in a world where visibility, communication and social responsibility are more interconnected than ever. Entrepreneurs are no longer just builders of companies; we are also storytellers, cultural ambassadors and, in many cases, advocates for causes that matter to us.

In my own journey, entrepreneurship, media and humanitarian work have never been separate paths. They are part of the same vision: using opportunities, platforms and influence to contribute to something larger than ourselves.

A Lasting Lesson In Leadership

One of the most meaningful chapters of my career was the opportunity to work for nearly a decade alongside a leader whose approach to business and philanthropy reshaped my understanding of both.

Alongside being a major player in the toys and entertainment space, he dedicated much of his life to humanitarian causes, especially those focused on children and vulnerable communities. Traveling with him, seeing his commitment firsthand and witnessing how he used his influence to open doors for others left a profound mark on me.

His passing in July of last year left a deep void, not only for those of us who loved him, but for the countless communities touched by his work. Yet, I think it’s important to note how his legacy continues to guide me and others. He taught me that building successful businesses and contributing to society are not separate goals—they can, and often should, move forward together.

Business success can be measured in numbers. But leadership is often measured in something less tangible: the ability to inspire, connect and create lasting impact.

And for many of us today, that broader definition of success is becoming more important than ever.
